5 Reasons to Have an At-Home Engagement Session
It is always such an honor for me to be invited into someone’s home to take their pictures because, I feel, they are letting me into an incredibly intimate part of their life. Because of this, in-home engagement and couples sessions are some of my absolute favorites. If you are trying to figure out if this might be the right route for you, here are a few things to consider:
You are in a space that has meaning for you and your partner
Your home is where you and your partner have most of your big moments, and that’s great. But it’s also where all of those special, authentic, intimate, in-between moments happen too. Your home represents more than just a place to lay your head at night. It represents the place where you get to wake up every morning next to the love of your life and can dance in the kitchen while you make dinner together. Those are the stunning moments that are going to come together to make up your life. I want to help you capture that comfortable beauty in your home.
You can be absolutely confident and comfortable in your space
Many people (myself included) are not comfortable being in front of the camera. Being at home, in your space, helps to make you feel less anxious and more secure. This will help you and your partner loosen up and allow your true, authentic relationship to shine through.
You can include your pets
Just like humans, animals are most comfortable in their own spaces. When you have your engagement session in your home, it’s easier to capture your special buddy snuggled up with you and your partner. My dog, Bear, is a very important member of our little family and some of my favorite pictures of him are when he is just playing around in our home.
You can let go of the outside world, just for a little while
Right now, a lot of people are not comfortable being out in the world where they may have to come into close contact with other people. That is perfectly valid, but it doesn’t mean that you have to forego capturing this important moment in your relationship. When you have your couples session at home, you don’t have to worry about any of that. It is just you and your partner, me (with my ever-present mask on), and my camera.
You don’t have to worry about the weather
Not everyone is a fan of the cold. I know, because I certainly am not. And, while I personally love a rainy day photo session, that might not be your thing. Whatever the situation is outside, your house is impervious to inclement weather. There is no need to bundle up in heavy winter jackets or worry about your makeup sweating off when you are inside your home.
