How to Rock Your Engagement Shoot

Not quite sure how to prepare for an engagement photo shoot that you have coming up? No big deal! Here are a few pointers on how to prepare for and feel super confident at your engagement session.

Before the Day:

1) Book a Photographer That You Feel Comfortable With

Your photographer is going to be your guide throughout your entire session. I always suggest that you chat with your photographer over the phone or on a virtual meet before booking them. If you don’t feel comfortable talking with them, you won’t feel comfortable having them photograph you either.

2) Find an Outfit That Makes You Feel Confident

This is so important. When you are thinking about what you want to wear in your photos, the most important thing is that it makes you feel amazing. If you wear something that makes you feel like a million bucks, that confidence is going to shine through in your photos.

The Day Before:

1) Confirm With Your Photographer

I always suggest that you check in with your photographer the night before. Double check times and a location. This will put your mind at ease so that you are not up all night worried about logistics.

2) Settle in For a Date Night

Tomorrow is all about you and your relationship. Spend the night reminiscing about everything that has brought you to this point. You can also use this time to talk about expectations for the next day. Things that you are excited about, nervous for, etc. Get pumped because tomorrow is going to be so much fun!

3) Get a Good Night’s Sleep

I know that you are stoked for your session tomorrow but, trust me, you want to shut your eyes and get some sleep.

The Day of:

1) Drink Water

Not only does water keep you looking radiant, but it also keeps your body hydrated (duh). This is going to keep you energized and feeling good throughout the shoot.

2) Eat a Good Meal

Don’t skip out on sustenance because you are excited or nervous. You don’t want to be thinking about your grumbling stomach during your photoshoot. Have some protein to fuel your body. Trust me, you will be glad that you did.

3) Listen to Music on the Way There

On your way to your session, turn on some music that is meaningful to you and your partner. Sing along, dance around in your seat, and just soak up the moment.

A Few Last Parting Tips:

1) Embrace the Awkward

I swear, 90% of my couples say that they are awkward or uncomfortable in front of the camera. I have found that the awkwardness at the beginning of the session makes for some extremely adorable photos.

2) Lean Into Each Other

This photoshoot is about the two of you. If you don’t know what to do or are feeling awkward, just snuggle up with your partner and focus on them.

3) Trust Your Photographer

Your photographer is there to capture your authentic relationship and make you feel good. Trust them to do that.

4) Be Yourself

Don’t try to recreate hundreds of poses that you have seen on Pinterest. Those couples aren’t you. Just be your amazing self.
